Our Client has an exciting opportunity for an Economist to join their team working in Central London.

You will join the Economic Intelligence team to help shape the organisation's views on UK and international macroeconomic trends and feed into CBI policy development. Based at their London offices at Cannon Place, the Economic Intelligence team plays a key role in bringing economic rigour to organisation's policy development.

Reporting to a Principal Economist, the Economist would be working alongside other Economists, data analysts and policy advisors, both within the Economics directorate and across the organisation. A key part of the job will be engagement with senior business leaders, Government officials, and the media.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertaking economic analysis to help develop the organisation’s policy positions
  • Commentary on UK and international economic developments
  • Contributing to the organisation’s bi-annual economic forecast
  • Assisting in the analysis and interpretation of the organisation’s business surveys
  • Data analysis, research, and input to reports on economic issues
  • Presenting the organisation’s views on macroeconomic trends to business, government and the media

Knowledge and experience

  • Essential
    • Degree or higher in economics discipline or a related field
    • Minimum of two years’ experience as an economist
    • Excellent working knowledge of MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
    • Demonstrable knowledge of macroeconomic indicators and fiscal accounts
    • Ability to work with a range of stakeholders to build support for economic policies
    • Ability to explain economics to a business audience through both presentations and written work
  • Desirable
    • Ability to conduct cost/benefit analysis of tax and fiscal policy
    • Experience engaging with senior business leaders, government officials, and the media
    • Experience with econometric software
  • Skills
    • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
    • The ability to convey complex economic concepts to non-experts
    • Accurate data analysis, and well researched and clearly written economic reports
    • Demonstrating the ability to think logically and to apply economic principles when analysing an economic situation, or when responding to a policy problem

  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • A team worker who enjoys working alongside people from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds
  • Relishes the opportunity to investigate complex economic issues
