Our client, Friends of the Earth is one of the most influential environmental organisations in the UK. Among other achievements, they've played a major role in the development of the world’s first climate change laws and the rise in household recycling.

Their vision is for a healthy environment that provides a decent life for all generations to come. They are optimistic and ambitious about how fast they can reach their vision, but can’t fix everything instantly so they have set a medium-term goal to provide focus for everything they do: By 2030, the next generation will enjoy an environment that’s getting better: a safer climate, flourishing nature, and healthy air, water and food.

They want to offer more ways for people to engage with their mission. Innovative thinking is at the heart and they are looking for dynamic individuals who will challenge, help shape the future and support the delivery of a refreshed focus for the organisation.

To that end, they are looking to appoint a new board member who will take on the role of Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee to oversee Friends of the Earth’s financial affairs. They want to ensure the Board has the broadest diversity of experience that truly reflects our society.

Where do you come in…?

They are seeking candidates who bring strong governance skills and experience of senior leadership, as well as a proven record of significant achievement in your own field, ideally used to operating at a strategic level, confronting challenges and facilitating initiatives.

Being a member of the Friends of the Earth Trust Board is a highly rewarding experience and as Chair of Friends of the Earth Limited’s Finance Committee, you’ll play a vitally important role overseeing both their finances and governance.

You’ll oversee the viability of new plans and proposals, as well as making sure that the financial affairs are legal and adhere to agreed good practice.

You’ll have a significant amount of experience in a senior finance role (ideally holding a relevant accounting qualification – ACA, ACCA or CIMA), as well as experience of board-level governance. You’ll also be able to use your strong interpersonal skills to communicate complex financial information to non-financial colleagues.

With these responsibilities come the satisfaction and empowerment of knowing that your commitment will make a direct difference to Friends of the Earth’s values and environmental goals.

If you’re committed to their aims, keen to apply your skills at board level, have the right background and experience, and can attend meetings regularly, then please consider putting yourself forward.

Friends of the Earth is an equal opportunities organisation and they want the Board to reflect. They value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination and have elected to work with partners with expertise in diverse recruitment. They want to increase the diversity of the leadership and would like to encourage applications from female, disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background, as they are currently under represented on the Board.

For more information please email cv@bamerecruitment.com to request an information pack which includes a full job description.  You will then need to provide a CV and cover letter to complete your application.

Once you have recieved your information pack, please ensure that you submit your application by 23:59 on Sunday 27 May 2018. We hope to have successfully appointed a new Chair of the Finance Committee by Monday 2nd July 2018 and interviews will be held in London in mid-June 2018.

We're pretty ambitious, and we've been entered for a few awards along the way
