The student movement has always been at the forefront of change. Over the past 94 years, NUS, students’ unions and partners have led and witnessed much change in education and the broader society, and the Union will continue to do so in the years to come.
NUS is committed to delivering a transformative educational experience that creates a just and sustainable future. We aim to improve students' lives by shaping education, empowering individuals, and developing, protecting and championing students’ unions.
We are now looking to appoint two new Lay Trustees. You will help the NUS ensure effective governance arrangements are in place and rigorously monitor the company’s performance.
Our volunteer Board members donate a wealth of knowledge and expertise to support this non-profit organisation. You will work closely with Directors and Student Leadership across the organisation to ensure we have efficient and sound operations that enable us to drive change as well as support our members, Students’ Unions.
You will be the kind of person who would feel comfortable working in a student-led, democratic environment and who values equal opportunities. You will use your highly collaborative style to deliver real progress against a challenging, political mission.
As a collaborative and supportive person, you will have previous experience on a Board or Subcommittee.
The Lay Trustees each bring a particular skill and a background of expertise.
We are seeking a Trustee with Legal qualifications and experience in a legal area, who also has the knowledge to chair the Finance and Risk Subcommittee.
PR and Media expertise
We are seeking a Trustee with media/PR qualifications and expertise who can support the Board in managing reputational risk. They will be a Trustee on both the NUS UK board and NUS SU Charitable Services Board.
Non-Profit organisation’s like NUS can only succeed through the support of great volunteers who share our passion for students driving change.
As a Trustee you are at the centre of the action for the organisation. The more effective the Board of Trustees, the greater difference you and NUS will make. The best boards are also diverse, with people who have a real understanding of the needs of those we are here to help as well as skills spanning technology, marketing, communications, philanthropy, international development, financial, business and management experience.
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship, including an understanding of the difference between governance and management functions.
Applicants can be aged 16 and over and must not be disqualified as a company director.
NUS is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from people from all sections of the community. We would like to encourage applicants from BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds as they are currently under-represented at Executive level.
Closing Date: 19th February 2018
