An exciting opportunity has arisen, to work within a leading charity, for General Counsel (and Company Secretary).  You will become part of a highly motivated, multidisciplinary team, in this organisation based in London.

Purpose of the Role
The General Counsel will be the senior lawyer responsible for providing legal advice to the organisation, quantifying and managing legal risk, ensuring compliance and future proofing the organisation from a legal perspective. 

Key Accountabilities / Objectives

  • Provide end to end legal advice for the organisation, including managing resource (internal, external) to ensure effective, timely delivery of legal services 
  • Provide legal input into organisational strategy and ensuring legally effective implementation of agreed strategy
  • Advise on and mitigating legal risks arising from the charity’s operations to protect the charities reputation and assets, in particular in relation to contracts, IP, data protection, marketing and advertising, charity, fundraising and corporate laws 
  • Drafting, negotiating and managing delivery of major contracts and the legal aspects of major projects across the organisation. 
  • Ensure good governance within the organisation and that the organisation operates systems and processes for effective governance (to ensure compliance with law and regulation).
  • Fulfil of Company Secretarial duties.  
  • To lead, manage and support the Legal team through regular one-to-one’s and clear performance objectives and KPI’s. 
  • Be an ambassador for collaborative Cross-functional working both within the Legal team and across the wider organisation.

Essential Education and Skills 

  • Significant post qualification experience as a lawyer, including in-house. 
  • Broad commercial legal experience (with an expertise in media and/or tech and/or charity).
  • Experience at senior team/board level and also City/large firm training/experience.
  • Leadership and management of high performance team.
